New Zealand Audiological Society Position Statement Classroom Acoustics

The New Zealand Audiological Society (NZAS) supports the improvement of the acoustical properties of classrooms throughout New Zealand in order that all students may better hear their teachers (direct instruction) and their peers (indirect instruction).  In addition it will improve the environment for a wide range of special needs children.  It is now well know that children with a range of auditory deficits such as those with autistic spectrum disorder and Auditory Processing Disorder (APD), can be severely affected by classroom noise causing pain and distress which can have serious implications for their education in the regular school system.
