Audiometrist scope of practice with regards to paediatric diagnostics and rehabilitation

In NZ, the age range of paediatric services is typically defined to span from birth until the 16th birthday.  The scopes of practice of the NZAS and ANZAI societies are clear on who can perform paediatric testing. For audiometrists, the only paediatric work that is within the scope is assisting with VRA or a hearing aid fitting. So this would exclude audiometrists from independent paediatric diagnostic and habilitation work, including work in an ENT clinic. NZAS appreciates that there are instances in some DHBs or private clinics where audiometrists have been performing this work, however, it does contravene the scope of practice. Therefore in the future, independent paediatric diagnostic and habilitation work, including work in an ENT clinic, should be performed by audiologists.
